As I mentioned a while ago, I have been very much inspired by Pennsylvania Dutch Fraktur art. This brand new original sampler is inspired by the simple forms, patterns and ornamentation found on their artwork. Next month we are moving to a new home, so it felt appropriate to create a house blessing pattern for that purpose. The sampler reads “Bless this house and all who enter”.
Fraktur refers to the style of writing in those artworks, as they illustrated their documents with a fractured, pointy, gothic letter. In this pattern I used the long S, which looks very similar to the letter f to modern readers!
On this pattern you find a decorative pot & carnations, with a striped bird perched on top. The bird has a crown above its head, and at the bottom is an abstract pattern framing the work.
The pattern measures 186 by 131 stitches. Stitched over two threads on 32 count linen it would measure 11 5/8″ by 8 1/4″ (29.5 by 21cm). I stitched mine on natural unbleached linen.
This pattern was stitched with Simply Shaker threads from The Gentle Art:
Tradewind – 7089
School Yard – 7053
Grape Leaf – 7028
Crystal Lake – 7075
Heirloom Gold – 7079
Sarsaparilla – 7015
And now it’s on to the next pattern! I think it will be a homely pattern as well. Maybe even a stately home!
