Description

This pattern was inspired by a photograph of an antique German sampler from 1618 in the V&A archives. It is believed to be the oldest surviving German embroidery sampler. One of the patterns on it is this gorgeous square motif, featuring reindeer and flowers.

It is such a wonderful wintry pattern, making a great pincushion or simply a decorative element in the Christmas home!

The pattern is executed in red, but can be stitched in any colour of course. Wintery white stitches on unbleached linen for instance would look very beautiful!

This pattern measures 83 by 83 crosses. Embroidered over 2 threads on 32 count linen it would measure approximately 5 1/4” by 5 1/4” (13.5 by 13.5 cm). Make sure to check out the selection of high quality embroidery threads and fine linens in my shop!
