The banks of the river Ouse are always beautiful to walk along, but tonight they felt extra special. We’ve had a lot of rain in England, which has resulted in lots of flooding. Nothing new there, as one gets used to that living in York. The geese definitely seem to be enjoying the freshly soaked grass in the little park next to our home – which looks more like a mud patch than anything else right now!
The atmosphere was simply beautiful – the twilight, the silence, the lights along the bank on the river, the water running silent but rapid, the smell of wood fires in the houses nearby, the birds singing their evening songs… and a very light drizzle that turned into proper rain as I reached home. Halfway the walk I came across an old church that now has been converted into a home. The old churchyard (complete with Lychgate) was abloom with snowdrops. It’s so beautiful to see their white heads pop out of the ground on a cold evening.
