This is a Pride SAL and will run from the 1st of June through to the end of August 2022. I invite anyone who would like to participate to join in on the fun – whether you want to stitch the full colour or the monochrome version! Simply get your pattern, start stitching and share your photos on Instagram with the hashtag #MFEPrideSAL
I wanted to do an LGBTQ+ inspired pattern for some time, but I didn’t quite know where to start. With current anti-LGBTQ+ laws being passed in the US educational system, I felt that I really wanted to do something myself. Ater watching imogenXstitch’s first flosstube episode, I was inspired by some words they said right at the end of that video. They showed a tarot card “The Lovers”, and quoted Madam Adam’s words “Move forward in love, or backward in fear”. As the Progress Pride Flag has triangles on the left pointing to the right, the “moving forward in love” seemed such an appropriate quote to display in this design.
50% of all profits of this design will be donated to a US-based LGBTQ+ charity or organisation yet to be determined. I’m expecting the Flosstube and Instagram communities to have some wonderful suggestions for me. As soon as I have decided on them I will publish that here.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
This design only features full crosses and can be worked on either linen or Aida fabric. When worked precisely as per the pattern, the design measures 131 crosses in width and height. I charted it so that you only need one skein of each colour. However, I would recommend getting an extra hank of the green floss – especially when stitching on 28 and 32 count linen (14 & 16ct Aida). Below are finished size measurements for a variety of fabrics.
28ct linen / 14ct Aida: 9 1/2” x 9 1/2” (23.8 x 23.8cm)
32ct linen / 16ct Aida: 8 1/8” x 8 1/8” (20.8 x 20.8cm)
36ct linen / 18ct Aida: 7 3/8” x 7 3/8” (18.5 x 18.5cm)
40ct linen / 20ct Aida: 6 5/8” x 6 5/8” (21 x 27.5cm)
46ct linen: 5 5/8” x 5 5/8” (14.5 x 14.5cm)

The pattern is split over four pages. After the 1st pattern page, you will notice a 3-cross high or wide greyed out area. This indicates an overlap from the previous page(s) and is there to help you continue your work on a new page.
I charted this pattern with a colour conversion based on DMC colours which are as close as possible to the 11 colours of the Progress Pride Flag. I added a dark blue for the outlines of the design. Tip: when working on the central medallion, start with the text and stitch the pride flag around it – it will be much easier to stitch that way!
Although I used the Progress Pride Flag for my design, you can choose to stitch it with the colours of a different pride flag, or you can choose to make your own conversion. Leo & Roxy Floss Co has an excellent Pride colour set that you could use for this design – you can simply add “Just Navy” for the dark blue, and you’ve got a perfect conversion for hand-dyed floss. Leo & Roxy Floss Co threads are exclusively available through www.evertote.ca in Canada.
In your downloads, you will also find a monochrome version with a total of 6074 crosses which requires approximately four hanks of floss on 28 and 32 count linen, when worked with two pulled strands.
