On a recent visit to Brussels I saw an old building that had a wonderful faÀade. On it was a sort of gothic structure featuring a young lady under an arch, and the words “a la rose” underneath it. I’m assuming that once this building was a pub of sorts, and that it was named In The Rose.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

This sampler is 89 crosses wide, and 155 crosses high. Stitched over two threads on 32-count linen (or 16-count Aida) it would measure approximately 51/2” by 97/8” (14 by 24.5 cm).

The design can be stitched up in two ways: you can stitch it as seen on the cover (with light fabric and a dark thread), which requires you to stitch the black square symbols in the pattern. This has a total of 7973 crosses.

The other option is to stitch it with light floss on a dark fabric. For this, simply stitch the : symbols. This version has a total of 5822 crosses.

On average, you can stitch approximately 1800 crosses with an 8-yard (7.3m) skein of floss. When working with two strands on 32-count linen, you will require about 5 skeins of floss for option 1 (the cover image) or 4 skeins for option 2. The pattern has been split over two pages. After the 1st page, you will notice a 3-cross wide greyed-out border: this area is an overlap from the previous page, which will make it easier to find your way to the next page.
