Even though it’s quite late here, I really want to share these photos with you that I took at the V&A in London today. I had such an inspiring day, and can’t wait to start designing some new patterns.
This morning I first made a trip to the British Museum, where I had a look around the medieval department, and came across some fantastic 14th century tile flooring, as well as some 19th century flooring by Minton. It were tiles like these that inspired my latest pattern.
After a quick brunch (Dutch pancakes!) I walked to the V&A. And how I love that museum. There’s just so much to see – I spent hours walking the rooms, taking photos, studying objects… and I still feel that I missed out on so many nice things. By the end I got so tired that I had to leave. I guess I’ll have to come back again soon!
The V&A has an amazing set of Flemish tapestries, which are very inspiring. I’m thinking of a way of adapting certain elements from tapestries into embroidery. I’m also quite obsessed with the annunciation and depictions of the virgin and child – so something with that subject matter might be happening soon as well!
For now I’ll leave you with a set of photos I took at the V&A. I took more photos, but they’ll have to wait for another day!
