This is a reproduction of the oldest dated sampler in my collection. NGD 1699 is a charming and decorative sampler. Colours for this sampler were changed as the original sampler had faded to only shades of very pale beige and green and some bright red.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This sampler is 209 crosses wide, and 147 crosses high. The features mostly full crosses, with just a few small areas of backstitch. Colours are indicated below the chart. I have chosen a range of DMC colours that work well for this design – please feel free to substitute any colours that you think are inappropriate for your fabric.Â
To finish this design, you will require at least one skein of DMC (or other brands) for each colour. On 28 and 32-count linen, you will need two skeins of DMC 3777, 935, 3011 and 3045. On 36-count linen, you will need 2 skeins of 935. On higher-count linens, you will work with one pulled strand and only need one hank of each colour.
If you want to make your stitching really special, I would recommend checking out the flosses by Roxy Floss Co in Canada. These hand-dyed overdyed flosses come in a beautiful range of colours and are exclusively available through evertote.ca
The booklet comes with a bonus alphabet chart and a page of empty graph paper so you can sketch your own initials onto the sampler if you like.
The pattern features mainly full crosses and has two small sections with some backstitches. There are no further specialty stitches or stitches over one. It is suitable to be worked on aida fabric. Please note that this design is not pattern keeper compatible.
