EMCM is a little mystery sampler, as I know absolutely nothing about its maker! I found her in an antique shop in Amsterdam. Its maker is unknown – the initials EMCM could mean anything: they could be her own, her parents, or herself and a sibling. Without any other initials, it is impossible for me to currently find out anything about her.
What remains is a small but very charming sampler stitched in bright and happy colours. Baskets, crowns, flowers and birds are all worked at its centre, while she worked her alphabet and numbers around it in a rotating movement.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This design is 114 crosses wide and 75 crosses high. It features only full crosses and is suitable to be worked on any countable material. The chart has an extra cross on each side of the edges to make reading easier for stitches touching the edge. Please refer to the table on the last page for size estimates of your finished piece on various sizes of linen and aida. The symbol key on that page gives you the DMC colours required for this chart. They are based on the original colours of this sampler. As there’s only a small amount of crosses per colour, no more than one skein is required for any material – whether working with 1 or 2 strands of floss.
This pattern features only full crosses. No specialty stitches are used. It comes with a Pattern Keeper compatible file.
