Elephant and Castle shows a medieval motif of a dressed elephant carrying a castle. It was the name of a coaching inn in South London and gave the name to the current neighbourhood and underground station. The year 1765 references the earliest known mention of this coaching inn.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
This design measures 157 crosses in width and 185 in height and has 12033 crosses. Please see the graph below for size- and floss estimates. Floss estimates are based on working with two pulled strands (14 – 18-count Aida or 28 – 36-count linen) or one strand (20-count Aida / 40-count linen and higher). It is, of course, up to you how many strands you want to use for your project. A three-cross greyed-out overlap area is found from the 2nd pattern page onwards to help you find your way.
As this is a monochrome pattern, you can stitch it in any colour or colours of your choice. I think it would look great with “Falu Red” floss stitched on “Biscuit,” “Buttercup” or “Speculaas” – all by Roxy Floss Co. (exclusively available through evertote.ca in Canada).
