All of us make mistakes – and I am certainly not without them. This design was made as an apology after missing an appointment with a small group of stitchers and subsequently meeting them the next day. I hope they’ve forgiven me…
I’ve always liked this quote by the 18th-century poet, translator and satirist Alexander Pope. It’s been quoted many times since its original appearance in 1711 – but my favourite is probably Maggie Smith’s, delivered with stern brilliance in ‘Sister Act’.

This design has 2245 crosses, 101 crosses high and 73 crosses wide. It features only full crosses and no specialty stitches. The graph below gives size- and floss estimates for a wide range of materials. Floss calculations are based on working with 2 strands on 28- to 36-count linen (14- to 16-count aida). Higher counts use a single strand. You are free to stitch with as many strands as you like.
