Description

Charlotte Ramsay, 1823 is a cheerful Scottish schoolgirl sampler made by the 10-year old Charlotte Ramsay of Craigton, Angus. The 16-page booklet contains the pattern clearly spread over 9 pages, and information on Charlotte and this sampler.

Although the pattern features mainly cross-stitch, it feature some backstitching and Algerian eyelets.

The design has been lovingly reproduced for you, and takes in account several small quirks and errors that Mary made in her work. On a few occasions Charlotte stitched some elements one thread off the grid – I have moved these elements a thread in the right direction to align it to a proper grid.

Based on stitching your design on 32 count linen with one pulled strand of floss, you require one skein of the following colours:

DMC 535 Ash Grey Very Light
DMC 646 Beaver Grey Dark
DMC 3033 Mocha Brown Very Light
DMC 3866 Mocha Brown Ultra
DMC 3752 Antique Blue Very Light
DMC 3777 Terra Cotta Very Dark
DMC 309 Rose Deep
DMC 962 Dusty Rose Medium
DMC 963 Dusty Rose Ultra
DMC 301 Mahogany Medium
DMC 732 Olive Green
DMC 730 Olive Green Very Dark

This sampler measures 291 crosses in height and 200 crosses in width. Stitched on 32 count linen, the finished piece measures approximately 46.5 by 32cm (18 1/8” x 12 1/2”).
