Description
This listing is for a PDF pattern, immediately downloadable as a file after purchase, so you can start stitching right away!
Embroidered decorative borders have for centuries been an integral part of traditional costumes all over the world. The very earliest samplers feature sets of borders, and later these borders became a proper framing device on samplers.
I love designing borders – there’s a beautiful challenge in creating a border that is attractive, works when repeated, and also has a traditional feel. I created the borders in this set to have the feel of traditional Dutch and Scandinavian borders – many feature strong geometric patterns such as triangles and zig-zag patterns.
This pattern was originally released about 10 years ago – and since then, it had not received an update. Today I sat down, and re-drew every single border, cleaned up a few errors and refined a few borders so it is now presented to you in the best form possible.
Borders can be repeated infinitely, and they are so versatile as they can be used on any project. I have split the borders over 8 individual pages. You can choose to stitch all of the borders on one piece of fabric, to create an old-style border sampler. For that, you can refer to the artwork on the cover of this booklet. Simply start with page 1 in the top-left corner, followed by page 2 underneath it. You can leave 3 crosses in between pages.
CHART DETAILS
The 10-page PDF booklet contains the full chart divided over 8 pages.
If you choose to stitch it as a full sampler, this design will measure 328 crosses wide and 242 crosses high. Stitched on 32 count linen it would measure approximately 20 1/2” by 15 1/8” (52 x 38. 5cm). This design has a total of 31145 crosses. When stitched with 2 pulled strands of floss you will require approximately 16 skeins of floss.
After your purchase, you can download the file as a “Letter” file and as an “A4” file: “Letter” is the paper format used in the Americas, whilst all other areas tend to use A4 paper.
