Description
This sampler was purchased from a lady in Italy who told me she believed it was stitched by her great-grandmother. Her mother referred to it as “Il fazzoletto ricamato”, or “The handkerchief embroidery”. When it arrived, I understood why: it is the most finely worked sampler in my collection, stitched on an actual finely woven handkerchief with a thread count of at least 80 threads per inch!
The booklet describes the pattern and some of the individual elements found on it in a PDF booklet counting 34 pages with the pattern itself taking up 30 pages. This version of the pattern is completely redrawn and re-interpreted as the original design was full colour. I had to take some small liberties to make design elements work. This pattern is also available as a true reproduction sampler with the original colours, here.
CHART DETAILS
This design measures 445 crosses wide and 482 crosses high. If you stitch it on 32 count, it will measure approximately 28” by 30 ⅛” (70.5 x 76.5cm). It has a total of 35514 crosses. If you are stitching with 2 pulled strands over 2, you can stitch approximately 2000 crosses per 8 metre skein of 6-stranded floss. This means that you will require approximately 18 skeins of DMC. As it is a monochrome design, I let you choose your very own colour.
