This design was inspired by a quote quote from the 19th-century artist, philosopher, critic and writer John Ruskin (1819 – 1900). In a letter dated 4th of November 1860 to his friend Charles Eliot Norton he wrote the following:

“When I begin to think at all I get into states of disgust and fury at the way the mob is going on (meaning by mob, chiefly Dukes, crown princes, and such persons) that I choke; and have to go to the British Museum and look at Penguins till I get cool. I find Penguins at present the only comfort in life. One feels everything in the world so sympathetically ridiculous; one can’t be angry when one looks at a Penguin.”

In a time when we receive more news than many of us can bear, we all can use some penguins in our life!

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

The pattern measures 113 crosses in width and 135 crosses in height. Stitched on 32 count linen or 16 count aida, it would measure approximately 7 1/8” by 8 1/2” (18 x 21.5cm). There’s 4288 black, and 2097 white crosses in this design. This chart was designed with Leo & Roxy Yarn Co floss in mind (exclusively available through www.evertote.com in Canada). It can be stitched on any fabric that would show off both the white and black threads.

The pattern is spread over four pages. After the 2nd page of the pattern you’ll notice a greyed out area of 3 crosses high or wide: this is an overlap from the previous pattern page and is there to help you continue your work on the new page.
