Description
A while ago I came across an antique book of French embroidery samples. One floral pattern, designed for satin stitch, stood out to me, and inspired me to try something similar in cross-stitch. Whilst I was working on this pattern, I noticed that translating an elaborate design into something much more primitive not only changed the design, but the mood also. Where the intricate and fine stitches of the original definitely conveyed French elegance, the more robust cross-stitch channels more the cold climate of the Nordic countries. And what is more appropriate than a garland of spring flowers to drive the cold winter away?
This pattern measures 127 by 127 stitches – embroidered on 32-count linen it would measure approximately 8 by 8 inches (20.5 by 20.5 cm).
