In reply to Tyla. The reason is that it is a direct adaptation of an antique pattern, and those were the words on this very ancient church cloth. Feel free to change the words to anything you like though! :)

I would love to stitch this pattern. It looks great. But why, why did you mix two texts with the words Agnus Dei? At first I was surprised that the text is going to be “Ecce Agnus Dei, ecce qui tollit peccata mundi…”. But with “qui tollis” the word “ecce” makes no sense 🙁 I would love to buy this pattern, it would easily find a place on my wall, but I have to think about new text, so I am still dreaming about it…

I have a question – I’ve always seen “tolis” spelled with one “l” – your version uses two. Do you have any insight into this discrepancy? Thanks!

Hi Jacob,
I purchased this pattern years ago, and I plan on beginning it this month. I will definitely post a finished pic!
I was thinking of making it a little larger, to use as an antependium for our altar, or a table piece.

Hi Marilyn – thank you for your interest! If you are making it as an altar frontal, you probably are looking to stitch it much larger than the version I stitched – perhaps you could purchase a large linen such as a 20 count linen (opposed to 32 count)? I would recommend then stitching it with a nice quality embroidery wool – that way, you will get the nice size, and you have the feel of the church woolwork pieces as well!

I would like to make this as an altar frontal. What fabric would you recommend?
