Description

This is the 1835 sampler stitched by the 17-year-old Engeltje Tjakkes Veltman, a farmer’s daughter from the Dutch province of Groningen. Like many other samplers from this region, Engeltje stitched her sampler fully black.

The 28-page booklet of this PDF contains the full sampler and many alternative options, including full crosses options and colour options.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Reaching Skyward measures 353 crosses wide, and 362 crosses high. It features mainly full crosses, has a small amount of backstitch, and is suitable for aida, linen, and evenweave fabrics. For those who do not want to stitch the backstitch parts of the pattern, a full-crosses version is also available. The Pattern Keeper file for this design features only full crosses.

Below is an approximation of the size of the fully stitched piece on various fabric sizes (worked over 2 threads on linen). Please be aware that these are approximations, and dimensions might vary on different brands of fabrics. Please add as much material to the sides of these calculations as you see fit for your finishing purposes. Floss amounts are calculated based on stitching with 2 strands of 6-stranded floss over 2 threads.
