This listing is for a digital PDF file. After the 1st of July 2026 you can download your file, in either Letter format (used mainly in Canada, the US, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines) or A4 (rest of the world). A 1-page (pattern keeper compatible) version of the design is also included.
When I first saw Catharine Walder’s sampler, I knew I wanted to chart her. She has a rather muted palette enlivened by some wonderful red and blue. Who Catharine was is unknown – as is the date that Catharine stitched her sampler. We only know Catharine was 13 when she completed her work – and that she produced a really charming sampler!
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This design is 182 crosses wide by 189 high. Please see the graphs on the next page for size and floss estimates. Floss estimates are based on working with two pulled strands (14 – 18-count Aida or 28 – 36-count linen) or one strand (20-count Aida / 40-count linen and higher).
A three-cross greyed-out overlap area is found on the 2nd pattern page to help you find your way. As this is a monochrome pattern, you can stitch it in any colour or colours of your choice.
Included in the booklet is an alphabet and number chart which you can use if you wish to personalise your work.
This sampler was charted with Roxy Floss Co colours in mind, to be stitched on “Speculaas” linen (or Aida). These are exclusively available through www.evertote.ca in Canada. Colours were chosen as close as possible to the original sampler. The two light shades are very similar and will nearly fade into the linen – if you do not like this effect, you can always swap out colours and make a selection that speaks to you!
