This sampler is based on an original sampler in my collection stitched by an unknown girl, most likely from Amsterdam. She worked a happy mix of animals, plants, and a beautiful red house on her sampler.
When I started charting this sampler I noticed just how irregular the stitching was – and that our stitcher’s creative solutions would be very hard to replicate. So I took the design elements as well as I possibly could and adapted them slightly where I needed to.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
This sampler has a stitched surface of 256 by 295 crosses. It uses only full crosses and no specialty stitches, so it is suitable for both linen and aida cloth. Stitched size estimates are included at the bottom for a range of linen fabrics when working over 2 threads. Aida is always half of the linen count (so 16-count aida is 32-count linen, etc.).
Floss estimates are given in metres and are based on working with 2 strands on 28- to 36-count linen (14- to 18-count aida). Higher counts use a single strand. You are free to stitch with as many strands as you like.
After the 2nd page of the pattern, you will notice a greyed-out area of three crosses high and/or wide. This indicates an overlap from a previous page and helps you find your way to the new page.
