Description

This listing is for a PDF pattern, immediately downloadable as a file after purchase, so you can start stitching right away!

Fifty French & English Borders is a followup pattern to my previous release Fifty Decorative Borders. It continues my fascination with decorative borders and how they have been used throughout history.

For this set of 50 borders, I took inspiration not immediately from textile arts, but I looked at decorative arts, furniture design and architectural elements from both France and England. Based on this research I designed a set of 50 borders which you can find here.

This pattern was originally released about 10 years ago – and since then, it had not received an update. Today I sat down, and re-drew every single border, cleaned up a few errors and refined a few borders so it is now presented to you in the best form possible.

Borders can be repeated infinitely, and they are so versatile as they can be used on any project. I have split the borders over 16 pages. You can choose to stitch all of the borders on one piece of fabric, to create an old-style border sampler. For that, you can refer to the artwork on the cover of this booklet and to the page-map.

CHART DETAILS

This chart does not have any overlaps, as otherwise the individual borders would have been broken up. Please refer to the page-map and page numbers to map out your chart.

If you choose to stitch it as a full sampler, this design will measure 492 crosses wide and 364 crosses high. Stitched on 32 count linen it would measure approximately 30 7/8” by 22 7/8” (78 x 57.8cm). This design has a total of 57867 crosses. When stitched with 2 pulled strands of floss you will require approximately 29 skeins of DMC floss.

After your purchase, you can download the file as a “Letter” file and as an “A4” file: “Letter” is the paper format used in the Americas, whilst all other areas tend to use A4 paper.
