Description

What’s cosier than a little sampler featuring a house and garden? This particular one has a little house with trees and two ladies pruning some potted plants. This PDF pattern is instantly downloadable after purchase, so you can start stitching right away!

Houses haven’t always been part of sampler culture – they were adapted on samplers from the mid-eighteenth century onwards, and it’s clear from their instant appeal that they’ve been a popular feature ever since.

A few of the borders seen in this sampler are inspired by antique samplers from the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, UK. They have a truly impressive collection of samplers, and a visit to the museum or their online gallery is always very inspirational, and highly recommended!

I’ve left quite a few blank spaces in this sampler, which can be filled with your initials or the initials of your loved ones. As is typical for samplers of this age, the letters “J” and “U” are missing, and are substituted by “I” and “V” respectively.

This pattern measures 150 by 175 stitches – embroidered on 32-count linen it would measure approximately 9.4 by 11 inches (24 by 28cm).
