Description
This sampler was purchased from a lady in Italy who told me she believed it was stitched by her great-grandmother. Her mother referred to it as “Il fazzoletto ricamato”, or “The handkerchief embroidery”. When it arrived, I understood why: it is the most finely worked sampler in my collection, stitched on an actual finely woven handkerchief with a thread count of at least 80 threads per inch!
The booklet describes the pattern and some of the individual elements found on it in a PDF booklet counting 34 pages with the pattern itself taking up 30 pages. It is charted with colours closely matching those on the original sampler. This design is also available as a redrawn monochrome pattern, here.
