This is the sampler of Lammegien Pot, a girl born in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. Drenthe samplers are relatively unknown, so to have one in my personal collection is quite special. This sampler was originally charted for a workshop event at De Handwerk Boetiek in Drenthe. I’m happy to be able to present both the pattern and all the research that went into this
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Lammegien’s sampler measures 193 crosses in width and 137 crosses in height. Please see the graph below for sizing estimates. The design has a total of 9 colours. The symbol key gives the total crosses of each colour. Each colour will require only one skein, except for DMC 822 (Antique Wedding Dress) and DMC 3045 (Ochre). I recommend purchasing two skeins of each when working on 14- to 18-count aida (28- to 36-count linen). Higher count aida and linen require one pulled strand; therefore, one skein of each colour should be enough.
The original sampler was worked in wool that had nearly lost all of its colour. It forced me to rethink the original colours – and make some creative choices. These were partly based on the brighter colours on the back, but even there, some colours appeared to have been washed out. Feel free to select any of your favourite colours to work this sampler! The pattern is charted with DMC and a Roxy Floss Co conversion created by Carmen (@cardamenpins on Instagram). This floss is exclusively available through Evertote Canada.
