This pattern uses the designs found on an antique 19th century cushion from the island of Marken in the Netherlands. I charted all of the designs, then rearranged them into a small design that can be used as a little pillow or a framed piece. You can also use these elements to decorate bed linens just as they did in Marken!
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This design is 141 crosses wide and 85 crosses high. It has a total of 5501 crosses and backstitches. The backstitch zig-zag line on the outer border is optional and can be omitted. I borrowed this zig-zag design from the original cushion, which was worked around the border that you see at the top and bottom of this design.
As this is a monochrome design, you can choose any colour (or colours) of your liking. When working with 2 pulled strands from a 6-strand skein, you require 4 skeins on 28-count, 3 for 32 and 36-count linens. When working with one strand, one skein should be enough for 40-count linen and higher.
Please see the chart below for a sizing estimate. Note that this is an estimate only and reflects the size of your stitched piece. You will need to calculate extra fabric for finishing.

This design features full crosses and backstitches. It is suitable to be stitched both on aida and linen. This design is not pattern keeper compatible.
