Description
This is a PDF pattern, immediately available for download after purchase. This pattern is also available as an embroidery kit, including wool, linen, needle and pattern.
For this pattern I took inspiration from some wonderful samplers in the collection of the Nordiska Museet in Stockholm, Sweden. The Nordiska Museet is the largest museum of cultural history. With an impressive textile collection, it’s always a joy going through the drawers in their textile department and discover beautiful Swedish crafts.
The central motif shows a heart, from which carnations bloom. Historically, carnations symbolise divine love. The three border designs were borrowed from a beautiful 19th century redwork sampler on which a girl had stitched a large selection of small borders in red wool. Välkommen is the Swedish word for “Welcome”, and this little sampler will sure make for a warm welcome in your home!
This pattern measures 115 crosses in height and 85 crosses in width. Stitched over two threads on 32 count linen, it would measure approximately 7 1/8” by 5 1/4” (18 by 14cm).
