Late last night we returned from a wonderful week in Stockholm, Sweden. On our return to York, we found that the city was as cold as Stockholm, which was a slightly unpleasant surprise… where is spring?
The trip has proven to be very inspiring: Stockholm is not only a very beautiful city, but it also hosts an amazing range of museums. I visited a few of them, of which the Nordiska Museet and the Historiska Museet were the most inspiring.
The Nordiska Museet focuses on many aspects of Swedish culture. I would highly recommend checking out their website for more information. I was particularly inspired by their wonderful collection of embroidery and folk art selections. As soon as I returned I started designing some patterns. Soon I’ll have a few original patterns ready, and perhaps some interpretations of traditional Swedish folk embroidery also!
On our last day in the city, our hostess told us that Swedish children’s author Astrid Lindgren used to live just around the corner of her apartment. It was wonderful to see the place where this great author lived for so many years and found inspiration for some of her most famous books.
Sweden is certainly a country that now has a very special place in my heart, and a place I hope to visit very soon again!
