These last couple of weeks I’ve been very busy working on brand new cross-stitch patterns. I’ve been stitching a lot of them in Schoolhouse Red Simply Shaker threads by The Gentle Art. Schoolhouse Red gives the perfect antique feel to your embroidery: it’s lively without being too harsh in colour, and is very close to the antique folk embroidery I’ve seen in Sweden’s Nordiska Museet.
Early this morning I finished stitching up my very first ‘biscornu’. I had never heard of this until someone mentioned it on my Facebook page. I really like the idea of this 8 corner mini-pillow, so I designed one especially to keep my pins safe!
I needed a little button for the back of the work, so I headed out into a rather bleak and rainy York to visit Duttons For Buttons. This lovely shop is situated in a medieval building and not only sells buttons, but has many great things for any needle craft enthousiast.
And in the unlikely event of not being able to find what you need, you can always go in and marvel at the medieval rafters on the top floor!
I’m very grateful to live in a city as beautiful as York. There is never a day that goes by where I am not amazed by the fantastic architecture and history of this city. Doing a little bit of shopping I passed several medieval churches, guild halls, Georgian shop fronts, Victorian follies and what have you more! I visited the Holy Trinity Church on Goodramgate, which has a unique 18th century interior.
It was featured just a couple of days ago in the lovely BBC production Murder comes to Pemberley. We watched some of the filming from our kitchen window, as the dramatic finale was shot just outside our house.
