Description
This design is immediately available as a PDF file after purchase.
Inspiration for this design came from the abstract shapes of an antique sampler I recently purchased.
For this Lily Wheel I wanted to keep a rotating motion, so I set off the design away from the central axis, and by rotating the design 90 degrees an illusion of movement is created.
Though it wasn’t my intention, I like that the decorative corner motif looks a little bit like a primitive bird, something that could have shown up hundreds of years ago on an ancient tapestry!
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This design measures 103 crosses by 103 crosses. Stitched on 32 count linen (or 16 count aida) it would measure approximately 6 1/2” by 6 1/2” (16.5 x 16.5 cm). The design has a total of 4568 crosses. On average, you can stitch approximately 2000 crosses with 2 pulled strands of DMC on 32 count linen. This means that you will require about 2-and-a-half skeins of DMC to complete this project.
Although this is a monochrome pattern, you can choose to stitch it in any colour you like. As suggested on the cover art, you can choose to stitch some elements (such as the + signs) in a contrasting colour. I will be stitching my personal version on light blue fabric with a deep blue floss and white accents.
I would love to see your interpretation of this design – so make sure to share your stitching on Instagram with the hashtag #ModernFolkEmbroidery
