Description
THIS IS THE 2025 SAL “BALDAQUIN BIRDIES”.
PLEASE READ ALL DETAILS BELOW!
Welcome to the Modern Folk Embroidery 2025 stitch-a-long (SAL)!
For the 2025 SAL I drew inspiration from the work of Daniël Marot, a French born Dutch baroque designer, engraver, and architect. Underneath a fabric canopy (baldaquin) we see some flora, fauna and baroque architectural details all coming together in a festive, swirling, monochromatic design, featuring only full crosses and no specialty stitches.
When you share your work online, make sure to use the hashtag #MFESAL2025 so we can all follow the hashtag on Instagram and we can enjoy each others creations!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION WITH REGARDS TO YOUR ORDER
This year’s SAL is split in TEN monthly parts that are all released simultaneously. Each month you’ll be stitching approximately 2800 crosses. Though the size is exactly the same as the 2024 SAL, it is considerably lighter on the total amount of crosses (which was approximately 3560 crosses per month).
The SAL starts on January 1st 2025 and officially runs through to the 31st of October – but you can join the SAL at any point during the year.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
“Baldaquin Birdiest” measures 211 crosses wide, and 295 crosses high. It features only full crosses and is suitable for aida, linen, and evenweave fabrics. This monochromatic design has a total of 27920 crosses.
Below is an approximation of the size of the fully stitched piece on various fabric sizes (worked over 2 threads on linen) and the amount of floss required. Please be aware that these are approximations, and dimensions might vary on different brands of fabrics. Please add as much material to the sides of these calculations as you see fit for your finishing purposes. Floss calculations are based on working with 2 pulled strands of floss on 14-18-count aida (28-36-count linen). Higher aida / linen counts use one pulled strand of floss. You are of course free to stitch with as many or little strands as you see fit.
FABRIC SIZE CHART & FLOSS AMOUNT ESTIMATES:
Also included in this booklet is a bonus chart (111 crosses high and 81 crosses wide, with a total of 4745 crosses), together with another chart featuring two alphabets and a full set of numbers allowing you to personalise your stitching.
