Description
This pattern was in part inspired by the many beautiful embroideries I’ve come across during my most recent trip to Sweden. I wanted to design a small romantic sampler, and was influenced by the wonderful wool embroidery found in Skåne, in the south of Sweden. You often see hearts, flowers, birds and other animals on this type of embroidery – something I wanted to incorporate into this particular design as well.
The deer surrounded by branches was adapted from an early 20th century piece. I then added the folkloristic hearts, birds, and the two full alphabets and numbers.
You could personalise the sampler by stitching the initials of you and your loved one next to the crown at the top, or you could even choose to insert the names of a newly wed couple, plus their wedding date, somewhere on this sampler.
This pattern measures 119 crosses in height and 89 crosses in width. Stitched over two threads on 32 count linen, it would measure approximately 7 1/2” by 5 5/8” (19 by 14.5cm). I stitched my sampler with “Dark Madder” threads from my own embroidery wool range, on “Flax” linen.
