“A Winter Kaleidoscope” was inspired by border patterns from the former Zuiderzee region in the Netherlands. A summer version of the design is available here.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
This sampler is 383 crosses high and wide. It has a total of 80656 crosses. If you choose to stitch this as a full- cover design, there are a remaining 66033 crosses.
Below is an estimated size guide for the stitched-up piece on popular linen / aida fabrics. It also gives a floss amount, calculated for 6-stranded floss skeins of 8 metres. Please be aware that most hand-dyed floss brands have a length of 8 yards (7. 3 metres). Multiply recommended skeins by 1. 1 (so ten skeins become 11 skeins etc.).
14-count aida / 28-count linen: 271/2” x 271/2” (69. 5 x 69. 5) – buy 46 skeins (2 strands)
16-count aida / 32-count linen: 24” x 24” (61 x 61cm) – buy 40 skeins (2 strands)
18-count aida / 36-count linen: 213/8” x 213/8” (54 x 54cm) – buy 36 skeins (2 strands)
20-count aida / 40-count linen: 191/8” x 191/8 (48. 5 x 48. 5cm) – buy 16 skeins (1 strand)
46-count linen: 167/8” x 167/8” (42. 5 x 42. 5cm) – buy 12 skeins (1 strand)
56-count linen: 137/8” x 137/8” (34. 5 x 34. 5cm) – buy 10 skeins (1 strand)
The design is split over 20 pages. After the first pattern page, you will see greyed-out areas of 3 crosses high or wide. This indicates an overlap from the previous page and will help you to find where you left off on the previous page.
Although this is charted as one large design, you can choose only to use the centre panel or the borders for different projects. The possibilities are endless!
