Description

This Celtic heart (Croí Ceilteach in the Irish language) was inspired by holidays cycling through the beautiful Irish landscape, and seeing the wonderful carved stonework the Celts, and later the Celtic revivalists, left behind dotted around the landscape. Recently my love for Celtic art and design was rekindled when listening to some Irish and Celtic music, inspiring me to create this pattern.

The crowned heart is a symbol seen on the famous Claddagh rings featuring two hands holding it. The heart, the symbol of love, is crowned, where the crown is a symbol of loyalty. On the rings, the hands represent friendship. The heart is an endless knot, whilst the border is made up of four interlocking basket weave knots.

This pattern would be a perfect gift for newly weds, those from Celtic descend, or anyone who just has a love for all things Celtic!

The pattern measures 95 by 95 stitches – stitched over two threads on 32 count linen it would measure approximately 6 by 6 inches (15 by 15cm).

I stitched my design on 32ct Flax linen by Zweigart, using Modern Folk’s Ruby Red Embroidery Wool. This pattern is immediately available for download after purchase.
