Description
Forget Me Not is a playful sampler with a scattered alphabet inspired by the monochrome samplers from the famous Ackworth School in Yorkshire.
This sampler is 379 crosses high and 303 crosses wide. Stitched on 32 count linen it would measure approximately 23.7” by 19” (60 by 48cm). The sampler has a total of 35528 crosses for colour A (worked over 2 threads) and 2272 crosses (worked over one) for colour B. On 32 count linen, purchase approximately 9 skeins of 6-stranded floss (when worked with 1 pulled strand) or double that with 2 strands. For Colour B you will only need 1 skein, worked with 1 pulled strand of floss.
For colour A, a dark thread close to black would look great next to the off white of the letters and numbers – DMC 3371 (Black Brown) or DMC 939 (Navy Blue Very Dark) would be perfect. For colour B you want something white enough to stand out, but not too close to the linen. DMC’s 3865 (Winter White) would be suitable as it’s just warm enough. If you stitch with a variegated thread, I would suggest using a very subtly variegated floss, as it can look very busy in this design. A nice overdyed linen fabric such as Weeks Dye Works would give this piece a lot of character. Their “Mocha” would look wonderful for this design. Alternatively, you can reverse the colours and stitch with a light floss on dark linen. I’m stitching my design on Zweigart 32 count “Slate” grey linen with DMC 822 as the main colour and DMC 3829 for the letters and numbers.
