Description

This listing is for a digital PDF file. Immediately after purchase you can download your file, in either Letter format (used mainly in Canada, the US, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines) or A4 (rest of the world). A 1-page (pattern keeper compatible) version of the design is also included.

Fifteen years ago, I released my first series of sampler designs – a series called Letters from the North.
These four samplers were all inspired by samplers from the northern regions of Europe and show influences from Nordic, German and Dutch samplers.

As I celebrate 15 years of Modern Folk Embroidery, I have been looking at some of my earliest designs and decided to re-release these four designs by creating new artwork and recharting the designs. I made some minor changes to the patterns as well, but overall they haven’t changed much.

This booklet contains the first of the four designs. The design features two uppercase and one lowercase alphabet. The separating border recalls Norwegian traditional embroidery. At the bottom is a series of crowns, inspired by the crowns Nordic brides wore on their wedding day.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

This design has a stitched surface measuring 97 crosses in width and 164 crosses in height, with 4635 crosses in total. Please see the graph below for size and floss estimates. Floss estimates are based on working with two pulled strands (14 – 18-count Aida or 28 – 36-count linen) or one strand (20-count Aida / 40-count linen and higher). It is, of course, up to you how many strands you want to use for your project. A three-cross greyed-out overlap area is found from the 2nd pattern page onwards to help you find your way.

As this is a monochrome design, you may stitch it with whatever colour (or colours) you wish.

If you want to approach the look of the cover, I recommend the following Roxy Floss Co. flosses and linens
(all exclusively available through www.evertote.ca in Canada). Falu Red is my absolute favourite red to work with, and would be perfect for this sampler. “Speculaas” is always a great linen to work with, and resembles the cover image. For a slightly lighter linen, I can highly recommend “Porcelain” too. As Roxy Floss Co. offers a wide range of colours, I recommend browsing the Evertote website to see what truly speaks to you.
