Over the years I’ve had many requests to make a wedding themed design. I wanted to create a pattern that had a traditional feel, borrowing stylistic elements from Scandinavian embroidery, but also making it fully adaptable to your own tastes. The design comes with a full alphabet and number series, which can be used to change the names and date on the design.
You can choose to stitch the design exactly as per the pattern, but it is also possible to leave the border off and simply stitch the central motif, or make a rectangular sampler out of the design by trimming the sides off the borders. It was designed as a monochrome sampler, for which you can use any colour or colours of your liking! The Crowned Heart measures 271 crosses in height and width, and has a total of approximately 24600 crosses (approximately, as name length will vary). Stitched over two threads on 32 count linen (or over one on 16 count Aida), it would measure approximately 17″ x 17″ (43 x 43cm). Please keep the large size of this design in mind when buying your fabric, as it might not leave you with a lot of space on the sides of a standard size piece of linen!
To stitch this design you will need between 96 and 126 metres of 6-stranded floss when stitched with pulled strands over 2 threads on 32 count linen or 16 count Aida (an equivalent of 12 to 16 skeins of DMC or Anchor floss, or 21 to 28 skeins of Weeks Dye Works).
