Late last year I thought it would be fun to do a Mystery SAL (Stitch-A-Long), and hoped that a couple of you would join in on the fun. Seeing as it’s quite a dedication to stitch a big sampler, I’m blown away that hundreds of you have joined in on the fun, and have been sharing your photos with me! Besides this post, most photos can be found on Instagram and Twitter with the hashtags #MFESAL2018 and #ModernFolkEmbroidery
But for now, let’s see what you’ve sent me. If you’d like to be featured in the next blogpost, just send me an email with your photo and details how you’d like to be credited – and I’ll feature your stitching in the February wrap-up!
Mariann stitched this wonderful interpretation:

Julie from Cardiff has opted for a lovely fresh green colour:

And in a nice pine-green, there’s this rendition by Margot:

Nanni from Italy stitched this beautiful redwork version:

Rita from Hungary has been stitching with a beautiful grey-ish over-dyed floss:

Sylvie from France has also opted for a grey-ish interpretation, but it’s a slightly different grey:

Emma from Melbourne is busy stitching her sampler, and has made a nice start on the outline too:

I like how Cynthia is stitching her SAL with the outlines in blue, and the rest in a lovely deep red:

@Astrohobo on Instagram shared this image with me. I love the beautiful faded blues!

I was absolutely delighted to see that my Japanese stitching friends have joined the SAL in great numbers – so lovely to see folks from all corners of the world coming together and stitch one design! Here’s Saeko’s beautiful photo that she shared with me earlier in January:

Tomoe, also from Japan, has this lovely blogpost dedicated to the SAL.
Some folks have contacted me to ask if it would be too late to start with the SAL now. It is never too late! Quite a few people are still starting, and I bet there will be people who decide to start the SAL in December! What I love about the SAL is following everyones progress. A SAL is not a race, but a group exercise sharing your work with a world-wide group. And if you’re several months behind, then that’s totally okay!
Emily shared this with me right at the end of January. It’s a wonderful autumnal interpretation, and I’m curious to see what the next update will bring!

As you can see – there’s as many interpretations on this designs as there are stitchers! And this is just a small amount of the images that are out there: just look up the hashtags on Instagram especially, and you will find many more. And I hope it inspires you to join too, if you haven’t already!
Warmest wishes,
Jacob
