Several days ago the news came through that we had hoped we’d never hear: Russia has attacked Ukraine, and once again, war has come to Europe. Like many people, I have been stunned, and I’m still in a state of disbelief.
Many years ago when I was a student, one of my classmates got a scholarship to study from Ukraine in the Netherlands. She became a friend, and I’ve recently been in touch with her again to see how she and her family are doing. There is so much uncertainty right now but they want to stay together with their family in the country they love.
War can leave us feeling powerlessness. We want to do things but we usually don’t know where to start. When I spoke to my friend in Ukraine, she shared with me a link that has suggestions on what people from outside of Ukraine can do to help the country and to show their solidarity. I hope that, after downloading this pattern, you will take some time to check out the link below:

ABOUT THE PATTERN
This design is a small celebration of the rich folklore traditions and of the people of Ukraine. The blue-yellow border represents the flag, and this colour scheme is repeated throughout the pattern. Inside a branch of flowers and fruit is the word MYR spelt in Cyrillic letters. The word MYR means peace – and we can only hope that peace will return to this beautiful country soon.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
This design measures 83 crosses wide and 57 crosses high. Worked over two threads on 32 count linen it would measure approximately 5 1/8” by 3 5/8” (13.2 x 9cm). This design has a total of 847 yellow crosses and 1166 blue crosses. On average, you can work approximately 1800 crosses with an 8-yard skein, when working with 2 pulled strands of floss over 2. This means that you’ll only need 2 skeins of yellow and blue colours.
You can stitch this design with any colour you like. As a recommendation, I can give DMC 444 (yellow) and DMC 322(blue).
There are two editions of this pattern, depending on your geographic location and the paper you are using in your printer.
