It’s spring! It really feels like spring now, with the sun out, and all the green showing up in the garden. We returned from a little trip to my family in the Netherlands yesterday, and despite the weather being a little bit colder and windier here today, we couldn’t have wished for better weather whilst we were there.
It’s always inspiring to see my family’s home. My mother decorates the house with such care and love, something which you can sense in every detail. In these pictures you can see a little bit of the house and the collection of antiques. Check out their wonderful website and blog, Of Home and Garden.
On Wednesday my mum and I visited the little shop next to the house, which sells some wonderful bric-a-brac. It is owned by the art teacher I had when studying fine arts in Kampen, The Netherlands. I saw many things I wanted to take home with me, but as I was already over packed with a part of my LP collection, I had to be strong and say ‘no’ to many nice things!
After this A and I went for a little walk in town. Sloten is a medieval city, and has many beautiful buildings from the Golden Age still standing. On the way,we got serenaded by what I think was a chaffinch (ornotologists amongst you please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), which I managed to capture on my camera. When walking out of the town along the water, so-called ‘Skûtsjes’ (a Frisian type of flat boats) were moored along the side. I love these, partly also because my maternal grandmother was born on one of these boats. On Thursday we sadly had to say our goodbyes, and travel via Eurostar back to York. On the train I managed to do quite a bit of stitching. I will try to share a little bit of my new work with you in a future post!
